Sir Paul McCartney has lashed out at former record label EMI calling them boring and calling Coldplay "an armchair".

In an interview with The Times, Sir Big Mac, the music legend said he left EMI because "Everybody at EMI had become a part of the furniture. I'd be a couch; Coldplay are an armchair. And Robbie Williams, I dread to think what he was. But the most important thing was, I'd felt they had become really very boring, y'know? And I dreaded going to see them."

McCartney says it was his producer David Kahne who heard his complaints and instigated the connections with his current label, Hear Music, a subsidiary of Starbucks.

The result was that this year's 'Memory Almost Full' was released in the US exclusively through Starbucks and became a bigger seller than McCartney's last EMI release.

The album was recently reissued in the USA with a bonus DVD featuring live footage.

Sir Paul McCartney will headline the Liverpool Sound concert at Anfield Stadium on June 1 as part of the Liverpool European Capital of Culture celebrations.
